Earth, a giant filled with diamonds

diamonds

Today there are many investigations in different fields, some much more interesting than others, the truth, which are being carried out by scientists from all over the world with very specific purposes. This time I want us to talk about one that can literally get to bring down the world economy due to its magnitude. According to a study signed by a team made up of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in collaboration with a dozen universities from practically all over the world, apparently the Earth, inside, is literally made up of diamonds.

As you read it, the Earth inside is much richer than we can imagine since, according to the data that this study throws up, we are talking about the fact that inside our planet there is a reserve of diamonds whose figure is 10 raised to 16 tons of this material, that is, about 10.000 trillion tons of diamonds. The negative part of all this, or perhaps positive, depending on the prism through which you look at it, is that, at the moment, human beings do not have the necessary technology to access these enormous reserves.

interior of the earth

A study by MIT in collaboration with different universities tells us how in the interior of the Earth there are more than 10.000 billion tons of diamonds

Once the study has been officially published, many have been the voices that have sought a way to get figures to reach the location of this huge reserve of diamonds seeking, how could it be otherwise, to enrich themselves in a way that is difficult to imagine . You have to think that if some human being gets the technology for this, it could literally destroy the world economy. An example that explains the latter we have in the abrupt changes in the price of both gold and oil, same that can lbequeath the world economyNow imagine if someone agrees to this diamond reserve.

However… Why can't you access it and start bringing these diamonds to its surface? Literally the problem we have is that they are buried in the roots of the cratons, that is, right at the base of the continental masses located between the crust and the Earth's mantle. To understand this much better, tell you that we would need to develop the necessary technology to allow us descend between 150 and 300 kilometers from the surface to get to this huge reserve of diamonds.

How does a team of scientists discover that there is a huge reserve of diamonds 150 kilometers deep?

As has been published in the official document prepared by the group of researchers responsible for this study, they have had to use very advanced seismographs. A seismograph is basically used to send and capture sound waves from the interior of the Earth to detect different anomalies. On this occasion they have been used because the speed of the waves changes depending on the type of rock it passes through. During their tests, the team had detected that sound waves were circulating twice as fast in cratons as they should, a rarity that has led them to a surprising conclusion.

Faced with this anomaly specific software was created with which to simulate the speed of waves in all kinds of rocks and materials that exist inside the Earth until finding a composition in the craton roots that matches the speed of the sound waves captured by the seismographs. After many tests it has been concluded that the roots of the cardboard should be composed of between 1 and 2% diamonds. Taking into account the size and density of the cratons, this percentage would equal 10.000 trillion tons of diamonds.
