ICANN doubles the length of the DNS system key for security

ICANN

In order to increase network security, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, better known as ICANN, has just announced that from now on the key length of the domain name system of the webs it will be duplicated in order to avoid new problems and above all to ensure all the information that moves between the DNS servers and the computers that consult them.

If we recall, or directly pull Wikipedia, we find that ICANN already renewed this key, specifically in 2010 when it was used for its renewal, it had practically not been modified since the creation of this code in the 80s, at the same time that established the new DNSSEC security protocol so that malware attacks would not produce any type of result.

We will have to wait until October 2017 for the new system to start working.

On this occasion we have not had to wait so long for the key, with a length of 1024 bits, proposed in 2010, to have had to be modified again to, at least, increase security on the network. This is precisely what is promulgated by the researchers and engineers who collaborate for this organization and who, after numerous studies, have decided that, due to the enormous evolution and power that current computers have today, it was necessary to update this key to ensure a increased protection against ransonware.

At this point, just tell you that the new key we are talking about has already been generated and is found in the 13 DNS servers that will be responsible for its distribution among the rest. For this key to reach everyone, we will have to wait almost a year since it will be definitively activated for everyone in October 2017, although the current system will continue to be operational until 2018.
