The prehistory of the internet and its browsers

More than 20 years ago, when the internet emerged, the tools to exploit the network of networks were very primitive and many of them were paid. In this context, the first Internet browsers emerged, such as NCSA Mosaic, Netscape Navigator and later, and now free, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox

Yes, young reader, I am going to tell you a secret: There was a time when the internet and mobile phones did not exist. Obviously the optical fiber that allows you to navigate at 100 megabytes per second did not exist either. Will you believe me if I tell you that there was a time when using your landline and surfing the internet was not possible?

From that prehistoric time we are going to rescue now some of the first browsers of the internet that existed. They were extremely primitive browsers that practically only allowed browsing: not saving photos, not downloading files and with a very primitive graphic aspect.

One of these first internet browsers was NCSA Mosaic. It is the second graphical browser to be developed and preceded the ViolaWWW. It was also a browser that had to be purchased since at that time it was not customary for browsers to be free as they are now. NCSA Mosaic emerged in 1993 and was done in a short time with 100% of the market share. However, with the birth of other browsers, the browser gradually lost market share until it disappeared in 1998.

One of the mythical browsers at the dawn of the internet was Netscape Navigator, being the first to be multiplatform and totally free. In 1995 Netscape Navigator had 90% of the market share although it could not bear the appearance of Windows 95 with the appearance of Microsoft's first browser, Internet Explorer. This browser made everyone else disappear from the face of the earth and for 10 years it had a market share that reached 90%.

12 years ago, what on the internet is a long time, Mozilla Firefox emerged, which in a short time due to a series of circumstances - including allowing safer browsing - acquired a large market share in a short time. Firefox was born as an alternative to Internet Explorer, being a safe browser, open source and compatible with all web standards.
