The ten best games of the generation according to EDGE

EDGE, with its ups and downs, it has always been at the top of the most trusted and proven magazines on the video game scene. And it is that they have been behind their back for many years publishing articles that are really deep and different from what we can see in any written medium. In addition to more sensible texts and approaches, the British publication has always been known for its severe analyzes that are far, at a general level, from those of most websites and publications that follow a much more compromising and loose scale.

Be that as it may, the magazine has published a list of the ten best games of the past generation and, as always in these cases, a certain stir has arisen around it. It is obvious that the concordance of opinions of the thousands of readers of the magazine is something totally utopian but the reactions of many users always call attention, qualifying, without going any further, as "fucking list shit" or "absolute nonsense" the ranking Elaborated. After the jump you will be able to find this list and some other reflections on the titles named and why

10. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
09. Little Big Planet
08. Bayonette
07.Super Street Fighter IV
06. Red Dead Redemption
05. Grand Theft Auto V
04. Portal
03.The Last of Us
02.Super Mario Galaxy
01. Dark souls

EDGE

I have to start by saying that, luckily, I have been able to enjoy all the video games on the list with the exception, to my regret (Nintendo, launches an HD reissue of both parts), of Super Mario Galaxy. And if, Dark Souls can be a somewhat controversial and risky choice for that first place but, in my opinion, Hidetaka Yamazaki's total commitment to design and challenge above all seems to me well deserving of that first place in which, beware, I would place many other of the listed games: Modern Warfare still seems like the best multiplayer everPortal one of the most groundbreaking games the industry has ever seen, The Last of Us is a total lesson in narrative maturity and Grand Theft Auto V the culmination of Rockstar's exceptional track record.

Beyond these five genius things, I think the Little Big Planet, Bayonetta and, to a lesser extent, Red Dead Redemption inclusions are the most debatable. This, always from my personal opinion, is given that it is not difficult to find much more influential games in the generation (added to LBP and Bayonetta are by no means excellent games): Minecraft was, is and will always be the game that revolutionized the indie scene that has been imitated by dozens of titles and that established a form of distribution / financing while, in addition, it is an exponent within the limitless creation by which bet LBP. Meanwhile, Uncharted 2 marked the name of Naughty Dog with force and has been the clear exponent in adventure games that not even its continuation could match.

Already, on a totally personal ground and leaving the objective aspect somewhat aside, in my heart there would be a place for TES IV: Oblivion for several reasons: it made it clear what the new generation was capable of leaving many with their mouths open (I will remember always that exit from the sewers, that feeling of vastness and total freedom) and laid the foundations for one of the best Western RPGs of the time, Skyrim. So I think that a company like Bethesda, creator of critical and public successes like Fallout 3, Oblivion and Skyrim, deserves a place on that list.

So, to conclude the article, I allow myself to take advantage of and reformulate the list of ten best games of the past generation since, as in everything, each one has their opinion and all of them are totally valid. The additions to Guitar Hero II and PGR 4 come from the fact that, personally, I consider them absolute exponents within their respective genres.

10. Guitar Hero II
09.Project Gotham Racing 4
08. Minecraft
07. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
06. Uncharted 2
05. Portal
04.The Last of Us
03. Grand Theft Auto V
02. Dark souls
01. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
