Although the wait for this new smartphone has been long, Xiaomi hasn't offered any amazing items or functions on its Mi5, although yes and it is as is customary in the Chinese manufacturer they have managed to develop an outstanding terminal. And with a very careful design, specifications at the height of any high-end and a camera manufactured by Sony, performance and success are almost guaranteed.

Careful design down to the last millimeter

It is undeniable that This Xiaomi Mi5 reminds us very much of other mobile devices present on the market, but the Chinese manufacturer and with the passage of time is knowing how to print its own and very careful design to its terminals.

This Mi5 stands out for being a compact device with a screen of just over 5 inches. With respect to its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi4, has become much more rounded and showing a much more sophisticated image, as required by most users.

Finally, it should be noted that Xiaomi has used materials that it had never used before in the manufacture of its new flagship. For example, we can find 3D zirconium, a much more resistant ceramic material, although also more expensive.

Controlled power thanks to the Snapdragon 820

Inside this Xiaomi Mi5 we find the latest processor released by Qualcomm (Snapdragon 820) and that we have already seen in recent days what the brain of other important mobile devices was like. With it the power, always controlled, is assured.

In addition, this novel processor will be supported by 3 or 4 GB of RAM depending on the model we decide on. As for the internal storage, it will be available with 32, 64 and 128GB.

Features Xiaomi Mi5

All the 3 available variants of this Xiaomi Mi5 will be the following;

  • Standard edition with 32GB and 3GB of RAM, its processor runs at 1,8GHz
  • High edition with 64GB and 3GB of RAM, the Snapdragon 820 runs at 2,15GHz
  • Ceramic exclusive with 128GB and 4GB of RAM, the chipset runs at 2,15GHz

At the moment the availability of any of the 3 versions is not known, although it is to be imagined that the one baptized as Ceramic exclusive will not cross the Chinese borders and will only be sold in the country. To confirm it, at least for now we will have to wait.

Camera; courtesy of Sony and synonymous with success

In this Xiaomi Mi5 we find a camera, whose sensor is manufactured by Sony, which is synonymous with success and being able to obtain photographs of enormous quality. Specifically, the sensor that we find in the Xiaomi flagship is the 298 megapixel IMX16.

In addition to the undoubted quality of the sensor, we find the latest technologies, among which the focus on phase detection, DTI or correct pixel separation for much better color capture, the optical stability in the four axes or the ability to record 4K video.

Finally, as far as the front camera is concerned, we find a fairly modest bet by the Chinese manufacturer. With a 4 megapixel sensor, although large, we will have a camera that in principle we could describe as quite normal, although until we test it and squeeze it we cannot say that it will be somewhat below what we all thought.

Price and Availability

As we already know more than amply, Xiaomi only sells its terminals directly in a handful of countries, so these prices and this availability are a bit dependent on the country in which you reside. For example, in Spain it is clear that we must buy it through third parties since the smartphones of the Chinese manufacturer are not officially marketed in our country.

Even with everything and although we do not have an official date of arrival on the market, we do know that the starting price of this Xiaomi Mi5 is 1.999 yuan, which is something like 300 euros in exchange. In the next step we find a price of 2.299 yuan, something like 340 euros. The most powerful model will fetch 2.699 yuan.

Without a doubt, they are very low prices if we compare it with other smartphones on the market with similar specifications. Without going any further, we can already say without too much risk of being wrong that it will be the cheapest Snapdragon 820 on the market, with a quite important difference with other devices that mount this processor.

Xiaomi Mi5, a good terminal, but maybe we expected something more

There is no doubt that this Xiaomi Mi5 is a very good terminal, which will stand up to other devices of the so-called high-end range, although maybe we all expected something more. And it is that Xiaomi arrives working on this smartphone for many months and yet it has not included any differentiating factor or something that can powerfully attract the attention of users.

We are facing an outstanding terminal, with a more than interesting price and that we are already looking forward to trying, but I wish today Xiaomi had left us with our mouths completely open.

What is your opinion of this new Xiaomi Mi5 that was presented today within the framework of the MWC?.
