The road transport sector is one of the most important in any country, and if not we only have to check the problems that a country causes when this sector goes on strike. A transport that should be much more valued than it is. Truckers spend many hours on the road, hours in which they face different dangers, be it simple distractions or falling asleep.
Celebrating Ford's 60th anniversary in Brazil, the American manufacturer has developed a smart cap in collaboration with GTB, but this time, is not dedicated to quantifying physical activity, Instead, it is in charge of monitoring all the movements made by the driver who wears it, differentiating the usual movements of the driver when looking through the rear-view mirrors or when they lean over the dashboard to perform any task or pick up an object.
In order to differentiate the types of movement that the driver usually performs, inside the cap we find a gyroscope and an accelerometer. These sensors are activated when the driver's head movement does not match the set parameters. When the driver's head tilts or leans forward or backward, the cap begins to emit a sound while it vibrates and a light on the front illuminates us to try to wake it up.
This cap, baptized with the name SafeCap, shows the company's interest in trying to improve not only the safety of its trucks, but that of the drivers, the most important part of it. At the moment we do not know if this design will reach production but taking into account the benefits it offers and that it probably does not have a too high price, I would say that in a few months we may return to talk about this cap that is not only ideal for truckers, but also for those people who are habitually forced to drive at night.
