LThe thing does not have much history, when you record a video, either with a photo or video camera, the machine creates a file where it stores the recorded movie, that is, it creates a video file that will have one extension or another depending on the format that uses the camera, for example you can find "my_video.avi", or "my_video.mvi", etc.
Pero while the camera is creating this video, it also creates a file with the same name but with the extension "THM", that is, the camera will create, for example, the files «my_video.mvi» and «my_video.thm». The first is the video itself and the other file with the extension ".thm" is for ...
BWell, you already know what files with the “thm” extension are for. As a conclusion I could say that if you pass the video from the camera to the computer, once you have it on your computer you will not need the file "mi_video.thm" unless you want to save the information. A trick to know if when you delete the file you will lose some type of data that is important to you is to copy only the file "my_video.mvi", or "my_video.avi", and see if it is displayed correctly, if so, do not give it more and go from "my_video.thm" and you should only leave it in the video or photo camera if you are going to keep the film there.

PIt is true that not all cameras create these files with the extension ".thm", some Sony they do it and Canon too.
