Computers are one of the key elements in the creation and distribution of music today. Currently there are hundreds of websites that sell the music of the artists of the moment, a dozen programs that allow us to listen to current music in streaming from anywhere in the world and of course, we talk about iTunes and Google Play Music, the two largest platforms for buying / selling music albums digitally. PDFtoMusic
One of the most misunderstood formats within the musical world (obviously, for musicians) are MIDI's. These files are both very powerful since they include a lot of information that can be adjusted to the different software instruments that any program can provide.
PDFtoMusic is a paid program, but with free version (trial), from a company called Myriad also known for the Melody Assistant program that many musicians use to compose.
This application will allow us to automatically transcribe a PDF score to a MIDI file compatible with any other music application.
Garage band
If you are starting in the world of music and you want to compose your little pieces you can use this free program that Apple offers to all users who buy a new Mac (and it brings OS X Mavericks). Within this small (but at the same time large) program we can compose through instruments that we can connect to our computer or simply by investigating the shortcuts on our keyboard to create music as good as the one we know today, as long as we know how to handle it.

Logic Pro X
If what you are looking for is something more serious such as the production of a more professional song, I recommend Logic Pro It is an incredible music editing and recording program also created by Apple but with a price that amounts to 180 euros. It is available in the Mac App Store and it allows us to perform a multitude of actions such as:
- Insert MIDIs and adapt them to the software instruments that Apple provides us
- Install more software instruments through Apple library or external agents
- Export of the created track in a multitude of digital formats
- Score editor
As I was saying, if what you are looking for is a much more serious program (and that you have many more professional options), I recommend Logic Pro X (only available on Mac).
djay
If you like other types of music and want to enter the world of DJs and mixed music, I recommend you djay This application allows us to create mixes between really impressive songs. It also has two more applications (djay and djay 2) in the App Store available for download on the iDevices. It has many new features such as:

iTunes
Despite not being an application "in itself", iTunes is one of the best applications (it is already installed with our Mac) that allows us to place our music in an orderly way. We can separate all our creations through tags, composers, song types ... In addition, within iTunes we can upload our musical Podcast (if we have one) to the iTunes Store and why not, become famous.
