Trick to Block a contact in GTalk

block GTalk contacts

GTalk is the service that Google offers us so that we can talk with each of our contacts and friends that we have added to the list. If we use an Internet browser, we can easily get to activate the chat area to start a conversation at that very moment.

Those who are part of the contact list and who have a Gmail account (or Google in general) they are the ones who will appear in GTalk; Now, maybe someone added us as a follower from their respective Google account, and may appear in this list of contacts with whom we could be talking, something that it gets awkward if he's not really our friend and we do not wish to have any type of communication with that person. For this reason, now we will mention the little trick that you can use to block one or more of these contacts who also use GTalk.

Block a user from the GTalk list

It is worth mentioning slightly, that once you have logged into your Gmail account from the Internet browser, you can easily go to the chat area with GTalk; It could be that the service is inactive, just touching the small icon to log in with your respective account. If you find a user connected, you can send him a message right then and there, who will possibly respond to you depending on the urgency of your request. Now, if you can see a contact with an "off" icon, it means that they are offline.

It does not matter that you are offline, well the message you send through GTalk will receive it once said user connects to the service; Now, if our intention is to try to block a certain number of contacts from this GTalk, then below we will explain the only two alternatives that exist for this.

Surely you have already logged into your Gmail account, and must also perform this task with your GTalk. Once the icon that belongs to you turns green, you can now review all the contacts that you have added to your list; If you have few friends in it, the task is only reduced to:

  • Hover the mouse pointer over the name of your contact.
  • Wait for the small description box to appear.
  • Find the little inverted down arrow icon (at the bottom right of the dialog).
  • Select this icon to display the contextual menu.
  • From the options shown, choose the one that says «block«.

As you may have noticed, the process is quite simple to carry out although, said simplicity has been due to the fact that we have only had few friends and of whom, we have also wanted block any type of conversation with the same within our GTalk.

Search for a contact to block in GTalk

The situation could become complicated if our contact list is too large and extensive; At that time, we should use the small sliding bar that is located to one side of the contact list within the GTalk area, and should try to locate the contact that we want to block.

If we find it, we must apply the procedure we used previously. If we do not know where this contact is (or at least, it does not appear before our eyes at that moment), then we will apply the following trick:

  • We started the session in Gmail and later in GTalk.
  • In the search space that says «search contacts ...»We put the name of the one we want to block.
  • A list of results will appear.
  • We hover the mouse pointer over the result of the contact we want to block.

The same pop-up window that appeared in the previous method will also be shown in this method. This means that in the same way we have to choose the small inverted chat icon to bring up the context menu and therefore, we can subsequently choose the option to "block".

If you want to unblock any of the contacts you previously blocked, you can do it without any problem; you just have to look for it or place its name in the GTalk search area and when you find it, follow the same procedure but now, to choose the "Automatic" option.
