Twitter squeezes 280 character tweets, we show you how to activate the new limit

The essence and part of grace that Twitter offers us is found in that we have to limit the number of words to the maximum to express what we want to say. On some occasions, the 140-character limit is likely to be so low that it makes us want to post a tweet as We cannot find a way to summarize it in content.

Twitter has begun testing a new 280 character limit among a small group of users. The motivation that has led the company has to do in part, according to the communication director who made the announcement, with the frustration of not being able to abbreviate the number of words in a tweet to the maximum.

According to a study carried out by the company itself, a similar number of characters is used to write the same thing in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. However, in Japanese, Chinese and Korean, the number of characters is reduced to almost half, allowing these users to write twice as much content as users who do not reside in the East. Twitter is currently experimenting with this option in a small number of users, but Thanks to the Tampermonkey extension, available on GitHub, we can activate the new 280 character limit from our browser.

How to write tweets longer than 140 characters

  • First of all we must go to the page of Tampermonkey from our Chrome browser, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Firefox, Opera, Dolphin or UC Browser and click on Download.
  • Once it has been installed we go to the following GitHub link where we find the script necessary to eliminate the 140 character limitation and be able to take advantage of the 280 that Twitter is testing in a small group of users.
  • Then click on the Raw button, located on the right side of the screen and in the window that appears we confirm the installation.
  • The last step is to restart the browser so that we can take advantage of the new 280 character limit that Twitter is testing.
