2017 was a good year for Contactless payment in Spain: 45% of users

Currently it is difficult to find businesses that do not have a POS (point of sale terminal) or dataphones. In addition, many of the purchases we make are made through credit or debit cards. And a vast majority of banks already offer contactless cards to their customers. And according to VISA in a recent report, Between September 2016 and September 2017, the use of this technology in Spain has risen considerably.

According to VISA, the increase in this technology in Spain during a full year (until September 2017) amounted to 17% compared to what was collected until September 2016. Or put another way: until September 2017, 45% of users used this technology to carry out their payments.

On the other hand, MasterCard also reveals that in Spanish society 42% of operating cards have this payment option. And it is intended that in the maximum period of 2 years all POS terminals have this technology implemented. On the other hand, you should not forget payments through mobile phones or smart watches. They also use this technology and more and more banks are adopting platforms such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

Such is the rapid adoption of this technology among society that It is estimated that in 2020 more than 90% of the population will opt for this type of payments. According to a survey, 33% of users commented that they chose contactless payment for its convenience and speed.

As a last point, it is referred to it took 10 years to implement this technology among the population. And it is that it was ready in 2005 and it was not until 2015 that it began to be promoted among banking clients.
