We analyze the CACAGOO dash cam, a good accessory for your car

It is increasingly common to include cameras in vehicles, either to park, to help us with driving or for mere security. Despite the fact that the legislation in this regard in Spain is quite diffuse, nothing prevents us from taking advantage of the benefits of a good cam dash. Today we are going to present you one of the best alternatives for this type of product, We analyze the CACAGOO dash cam, a good accessory for your car that will surprise you in terms of image quality, the possibilities it offers us and above all at its price. So stay with us and let's take a good, in-depth look at it.

We then have to differentiate between the different features that it offers us to get a clear idea of how far we can go with this camera and if it is really worth it.

Technical characteristics

The first aspect that CACAGOO catches our attention is the great image quality it offers us On paper, the maximum resolution is 2560 x 1080 at 30 fps, that is, with a screen ratio of 21:29, but it offers us a lot of settings, they are exactly these:

  • 2560*1080 30fps 21:9
  • 2304*1296 30fps 16:9
  • 1920*1080P 45fps 16:9
  • HDR 1920 * 1080P 30fps 16: 9
  • 1920*1080 30fps 16:9
  • 1280 * 720 60P 16: 9
  • 1280 * 720 30P 16: 9

How you yourself have been able to notice reading this, if we want to take advantage of the capabilities of HDR technology we can only choose the resolution in FullHD, that of 1920 x 1080 in 30 fps with a 16: 9 ratio. For everything else, we will settle for the classic post-processing that it is capable of offering us.

Ultimately, offers us a 16 Megapixel sensor and a video recording in .MOV format accompanied by the H.264 codec. Similarly, we find a built-in microphone that records in AAC format.

Storage and G-Sensor function

To store the contents of the camera it is important that we remember that we must purchase a microSD card, since it is not included in the package. It will support any type of class 6 or higher microSD card, although a class 10 card is obviously recommended for storing this type of content on the go. Regarding capacity, We will not find compatibility in cards above 64GBIn the same way that it will not really be necessary to use storage above what is specified, it optimizes the image quite well and we will not find ourselves short of space. Especially since the loop recording format is more than optimal.

Now we go to the software, in this type of cameras the post-processing of the image is quite important, and the reality is that the CACAGOO does it quite well, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. This camera has what they call "G-Sensor", a supposed device that will detect when we have had an accident or a collision, so it will automatically store the content recorded in the loop until that moment, and will place it in a memory place where it will not be affected or erased by the rest of recordings. In this way, the recording obtained by the detection of the accident can be really decisive when it comes to clarifying the guilt in a claim. This G-Sensor also detects when the vehicle is in motion, so it will automatically start recording as soon as you start.

The CACAGOO Software

Regarding the software, once we configure it in Spanish, we use its buttons to easily navigate through the entire system. We are not going to have great doubt about the operation, since the menu is shown in a list, like any other type of camera with these characteristics. and those of movement, which in turn will serve as «instant mute» and «SOS» (it stores the last recorded loop so that we do not lose it) once the camera starts working.

We can also easily adjust other parameters such as the time that each loop will last, the angle of the image, and we can reach up to 170º image, or "night mode" that improves brightness and contrast so that low visibility conditions do not affect the recordings we are making, a great detail when using it in general when we drive, for example on highways, where we do not find artificial lighting in general.

Keypad and connectivity

On the back of the camera, as we said before, there are four main buttons, the one for «OK», the one for «Back», and the movement buttons. On the right side we will have the slot for the microUSB that will give it enough power to charge it, as well as the "Reset" button that resets all the system configuration, and a microHDMI output so you can see the content of your camera in any television when necessary. It is quite a detail that they include this type of connections in a camera of these characteristics, especially if we do not have a PC at hand.

On the left side we will have the slot for the microSDas well as the on / off button. While the upper part is relegated to the hitch that we are going to use when "sticking" the camera thanks to its retractable arm to the car window. The reality is that the camera adheres quite well to the glass of the car and for now it has been quite stable and efficient to use, we have no doubt that it will remain in good condition.

Materials and product quality

Generally, I do not dedicate a section to this section, but the reality is that the CACAGOO has not disappointed us in this regard, despite being made of plastic, the materials are robust and resistant, while the front is riveted in aluminum, which gives it a rather elegant touch, so it will not clash in any car, whatever its range. The screen in turn is IPS and has a very interesting brightness and contrast, in addition to a film that prevents the sun from bothering it, so in terms of quality and packaging it has left me really happy.
