We compare the new Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8 + with the iPhone 7/7 Plus

A few minutes ago, the Korean company Samsung has officially presented the much-rumored Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 +. The first thing that draws attention compared to the S7 models that it presented last year is that there is no flat model, the company has chosen to launch two versions, 5,8 and 6,2 inches, both with the screen curved, leaving aside the surname Edge that had accompanied them since the S6 model, Samsung's first model with the screen curved on the sides.

Accustomed to the elegance that a curved screen offers us, the guys at Samsung have wanted to go one step further and now it is the upper and lower edges that have begun to disappear, which has allowed the company to offer a terminal with some huge screens practically the same size as its competitors, and of course, the comparison with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is strictly necessary.

Although in recent times there have been many manufacturers who have tried, the high range is still a matter of two. Samsung and Apple currently share this succulent cake, a cake that at the moment they do not share with anyone and that brings them most of its benefits. Without going any further, 60% of Apple's revenue depends on iPhone sales.

Screen

Galaxy S8 screen vs iPhone 7 screen

The S8 screen in the 5,8-inch model offers a resolution of 2,960 × 1440 pixels on a screen with OLED technology and the Always On function, curved on both sides. The iPhone 7 for its part, offers us a resolution of 1334 × 750, a resolution that is practically half that of its equivalent by size in Samsung.

Galaxy S8 + screen vs iPhone 7 Plus screen

The 6,2-inch Samsung model, the S8 +, offers us the same resolution as its little brother, that is, 2960 × 1440 pixels. In this sense, Apple does offer us a different resolution in the 4,7 and 5,5-inch models, being iPhone 7 Plus resolution of 1920 × 1080. Again we see how the Korean firm offers a much higher resolution also in this model.

Keep in mind that on a day-to-day basis, that is, while we use the usual applications, the terminal will work with a Full HD resolutionLike the iPhone 7 Plus, logical reduction so that the battery of the S8 and S8 + devices is not wasted without making use of the potential it offers us.

Processor

When buying two different operating systems, it is very difficult to compare the performance of each of the processors, since the systems have completely different requirements. While Apple designs its own software and hardware, Samsung designs devices for an operating system, an operating system that is not designed by them. The same happens with the amount of RAM necessary to be able to manage the different resources to move the system.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 +

Inside the Galaxy S8 and S8 + we find, depending on the market where it is available, the Snapdragon 835 processor or the Exynos 8895. Both processors will be accompanied by 4 GB of RAM.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

For its part, Apple's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus is managed by the A10 processor, a processor that has two processors to control battery consumption and another two to move the system and applications. If we talk about RAM, the 4,7-inch model offers us 2 GB of RAM while the 7-inch iPhone 5,5 Plus offers us 3 GB of RAM.

Camera

Galaxy S8 camera vs iPhone 7 screen

S8 camera follows offering us 12 mpx of resolution with Dual Pixel technology and an aperture of 1,7, being practically the same camera as the one implemented in the previous model. What has changed is the processor that is responsible for processing all the captures. The iPhone 7 for its part also maintained the same resolution and the same characteristics as its predecessor, the iPhone 6s, improving the process of capture and processing of the same. Both models allow recordings in 4k quality and offer us optical stabilization.

The Korean company has decided do not choose to use two cameras in the larger model, something that most manufacturers are starting to do. It seems that the Note 8 will be the model that will debut the dual camera system similar to that of the iPhone 7 plus. The S8's camera characteristics are the same as its little brother, with a resolution of 12 mpx and an aperture of 1,7. The iPhone 7 Plus, as I have already mentioned, offers us a double camera system with a wide angle and a telephoto lens, which combined offer us spectacular results. Both models offer us optical stabilization and allow us to record videos in 4k quality.

Local

I think that at this point in the year, everyone knows very well that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were the first devices from the Cupertino-based company to hit the market. without the headphone jack connection, being the lightning connection the only way to listen to our favorite music.

The new Samsung S8 and S8 + keep relying on the headphone jack connection and it has adopted the USB-C connection both for data input and output as well as to charge the phone. Fast and wireless charging, rather by induction, is also available on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 +, a charge that is not currently nor expected in Apple's iPhone range.

Battery

The battery life of a device not only depends on the use that we usually make of it, since an important part of the consumption is related to the optimization of the operating system. Apple devices do not offer us much capacity compared to Samsung terminals since thanks to the A10 processor and the optimization of iOS 10, consumption is much tighter and does not require so much battery capacity to end the day with battery. The new ones Galaxy S8 and S8 + offer us a capacity of 3000 and 3.500 mAh respectively, while the capacity of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is 1.969 mAh and 2.900 mAh respectively.

Dust and water resistance

Both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus offer us an IP67 certification, according to the IEC 60529 standard, a certification that offers us resistance to splashes, water and dust. This resistance to splashes, water and dust can decrease as a result of regular use, as we can read in the specifications on the Apple website. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 + offers us an IP68 certification, a certification that It allows us to submerge the terminal 1,5 meters underwater for a maximum time of 3 minutes.

Colors of the Galaxy S8, S8 + vs iPhone 7, 7 Plus

Apple tries every year to motivate the purchase of the new models it launches by adding new colors. In recent years, the guys from Cupertino have added some colors that at least during the first year of their launch have become bestsellers, as has been the case of the iPhone 7 Glossy Black, a model that is only available in 128 models. and 256 GB. The latest color that Apple has added to the extensive color catalog in Red, a color with which the company collaborates with the fight against AIDS. This color is also only available on the 128 and 256 GB models. Actually iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are available Glossy Black, Matte Black, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, and Red.

The new Galaxy S8 and S8 + models will also be available in a wide range of colors, among which we find the black, gold, pink, blue and purple. The violet color is the main novelty that we find in the color range of the new Samsung flagship, since all the previous colors arrived throughout the past year in the S7 range in its different variants.

Storage capacity of the Galaxy S8, S8 + vs iPhone 7, 7 Plus

The launch of the iPhone 7 marked the end of 16 GB storage devices, a storage that in the last two years had become the main entry point for many users, but which did not allow to do practically anything with the device, on the all with the arrival of the iPhone 6s and the possibility of recording videos in 4k quality. Currently both iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are available in 32, 128 and 256 GB versions.

Samsung continues to choose offer a single storage model, 64 GB, also allowing to expand the storage space through microSD cards of up to 256 GB, without having to pay for higher capacity models.
