Western Digital presents its new 12 and 14 terabyte hard drives

Western Digital UltraStar He12

Western Digital its catalog of SSD disk drives continues to evolve and, in this fourth generation, it has just announced a new catalog specially designed for business use known by the name of UltraStar He12 composed of two units of different capacities, 12 and 14 terabytes. As an advance, let me tell you that, at least for now, the multinational has not announced the price at which it will hit the market, although, due to its orientation, it will surely be literally prohibitive for even a domestic user.

What we do know is that these two new Western Digital hard drives will hit the market at early 2017. Specifying a bit, as announced, finally the 12 terabyte capacity version will be available in early 2017 while the higher capacity version will arrive a few weeks later. As for the most interesting features, note that these new units they improve between 10 and 20% to previous discs which, without a doubt, is quite a considerable increase.

Western Digital is coming in 2017 alongside new 12 and 14 terabyte SSD drives.

Internally we find that these new hard drives have a new architecture that allows them to use up to 8 plates in 3,5 inch format. This has caused those responsible for the design and manufacture to redesign the entire internal part of the discs. According to the specifications, Western Digital Ultrastar He12 have a 7.200 rpm SATA and SAS interface, 256 megabytes of cache memory and an operating consumption that ranges between 7,2 and 9,8 watts.
