The worst games of the generation. Volume 2

Last weekend, my partner MAD lit the fuse by publishing the first part of The worst games of the generation. Today it's my turn to rant and shout to the sky against five video games released during this generation. Of course, my approach is going to be something different and that is that the games that, after the jump you will find, may not be the worst strictly speaking, but they have turned out to be big failures surrounded by big expectations, budgets and means.

So, it is more than likely that some of you have enjoyed the titles listed below. Hence, I think it is necessary to clarify that, if we take a look at the catalogs published so far, it would be quite easy to find playable filth next to which the games I will talk about would become masterpieces. Here we go.

Final Fantasy XIII

It's been many years now. It has been many years since Square Enix lost the north with its main franchise. What is probably the most famous J-RPG saga in history has been losing options, plot level and, in general, quality by leaps and bounds. Final Fantasy XIII was yet another step on this decadent downhill.

Technically he looked and looks great, no doubt. But it is more than likely that this is so due to the limited settings, the variety and interaction with them. Taking the subject to the limit, we could say that for most of the game we will be walking through corridors, meeting flat characters and playing a topical argument to the extreme. Nothing I remember FF VII and its protagonist, Lightning, is the little good that we will find in the title.

Assassin's Creed

I ended up completing the first installment of this very famous saga. And it was quite an achievement for a couple of reasons. The first AC was a very long and expensive game to complete due to the extreme repetition of playable schemes. Little variety of missions and all repeated in a loop over and over again until you get dizzy.

An outstanding technical section and artistic representation along with a decent story did that the game was not a complete nonsense due to what we discussed. A total waste of a really worked universe that could have given much, much more of itself. Luckily, Ubisoft learned its lesson and brought tons of playable new features to the next iterations of the series.

Haze

"The Halo of Ps3". That's what was talked about about this Haze long before it hit stores and we could get it into the console. That its creators were the developers of TimeSplitters could make one think that this statement was not crazy and only increased the expectation about this shooter in which Sony seemed to have so much confidence.

Arriving in one of the down times of Ps3 made users cling to this burning nail as the game that would revive Sony's console and leave its mark on the industry. And well, we cannot say that the latter did not come to pass. The why? For the nonsense that ended up resulting from a project that, on paper, was quite interesting. Haze ended up being a bug salad, a really fair technical engine, practically nil AI, and pretty heavy control.

Resident Evil 6

If Final Fantasy is the flagship saga of the J-RPG, Resident Evil has always been, along with Silent Hill, synonymous with Survival Horror. Until the third numbered installment the game followed very similar structures and they were all outstanding games. Little by little, in the fourth and fifth installments, he turned more towards action but the classic scene was still transmitted in depending on what aspects.

Capcom seemed very excited about this sixth installment and the team of around 600 people who worked on it seemed an indication that we were facing a work of epic magnitudes. It is true that the addition of the different campaigns that were intertwined has been a success and, in reality, the game is a full-fledged survival horror. Why? Because one really ends up scared of the content that Resident Evil 6 offers, with ridiculous characters, grotesque and unoriginal creatures and a technical section too full of chiaroscuro. If to all that we add repetitive campaigns to the limit and a null playable variety, we have the one that is the worst Resident Evil numbered to date.

Red Steel

This Ubisoft game was one of the spearheads during the early days of Wii on the market. During its presentation and promotional videos the game promised to make great use of the capabilities of the Wiimote and Nunchaku together. The idea of being able to wield a completely free-form sword was very attractive and the art design of the game was really attractive.

Unfortunately, when push came to shove, game control was much more limited and repetitive than was originally promised. If to that we add absolute linearity and practically zero difficulty, we are faced with a great disappointment in one of the less prolific genres of the Nintendo console. Luckily, the second installment substantially improved every point of this first installment.

Bonus: GTA IV and Uncharted 3

These last two games that we will point out are two of the highest rated games of the generation and history. Even being excessively strict it would be crazy to hang them the label of "worst game of the generation" but they did mean paths big disappointments at the exit of each one. Both installments of great sagas surrounded by great expectations.

GTA IV It is, without a doubt, the emptiest "main" GTA in terms of content and playable variety. The amount of playable elements left behind when passing from San Andreas is brutal and the game relied on an outstanding technical and physics engine and a story that was supposed to be darker and more mature that ended up being a plague of cliches seen in the genre. . Luckily, GTA V seems to want to fix everything that went wrong in this fourth installment. One of the worst of the generation? Not at all. The best game ever as the notes dictate? Now here near.

Finally, and to finish, Uncharted 3, the third iteration of the saga starring the charismatic Nathan Drake promised to further improve what is possibly one of the best adventure games in history and one of the technical marvels of the generation. It ended up being clear that the development was carried out by Naughty Dog's "B team" and what we found was a game that did not enhance or improve the second part at all, it dragged great problems and script holes and ended up being one more than what same, but worse. It is still a recommended game but, without a doubt, it is the worst of the saga.

And so far our review of what, for us, are the "worst games of the generation." Each with their approach, we have talked about
