Worten, the multinational of establishments dedicated to the sale of household appliances and consumer electronics in general, has just been considerably sanctioned by the Spanish Agency for Data Protection. We go back to 2013, when Worten sold a person a hard disk that not only had been used, but included the data of a large part of his workforce. As if it were not enough to sell a product that has been returned as new, so it does not meet the conditions again, we find that they did not bother to check the status of the hard drive. This has cost the chain a fine of thousands of euros that it will have to face in the coming days.
Double upset was the buyer, who had not only acquired a hoax (the hard drive was not new) but also had private information of another person. This hard disk contained personal and professional information of some of the employees of the Worten center in question. This Worten store was located in Seville, and at the end of 2015 it closed its doorsWe do not know if due to low productivity or the bad reputation created in the establishment. However, contrary to what we might think, the complaint did not come from the buyer, but from employees whose personal and professional information had not been treated with due diligence.
The HR department had used this hard drive without any professionalism, and then it had been put up for sale again. Three years later, the AEPD has fined 10.000 in attention to the "serious offense" committed by Worten. The company has shown its agreement with the sanction and takes the opportunity to subtract ice from the matter, calling it an isolated case. In short, it is not the first time that we find this type of lack of professionalism and cleanliness in establishments such as Worten and Mediamarkt, which is ending up favoring online shopping.
