Xiaomi prepares a new high-end processor for the end of the year

Xiaomi Pinecone

Not too long ago the hardware engineers and designers of Xiaomi They made it quite clear to the world and especially to its direct competitors that it had enough capacity to create its own processors and thus not depend on third parties, something that brands like Samsung seem to have controlled, and thus become truly independent.

As you well know, today Xiaomi mounts in its high-end terminals a fairly complete and competitive processor that at the time was baptized by the company as Pinecone Surge S1, a processor that seems to soon go down in history since according to the latest rumors its Engineers could have a new version ready by the end of this same year 2017 that would reach the market under the name of Pinecone Surge S2.

Xiaomi already has the second generation of its own processor ready.

Apparently, such is the evolution of it that Xiaomi will begin to mass-manufacture it at the beginning of the third quarter of this year so that it is available to reach the market during the fourth quarter. This new processor will be manufactured in 16 nanometers by TSMC standing out for offering up to eight cores.

Personally, this is a point that catches my attention since the company, instead of the 10-nanometer processes, a technology that other companies such as Samsung or Qualcomm have chosen for their star processors, will continue to use 16-nanometer processors . Apparently this has a very simple answer and that is that the low productivity of the 10-nanometer process has led the company's leaders to opt for this 16-nanometer version.

This decision has its negative and positive part. On the negative side, not only users of Xiaomi's high-end devices will not be able to enjoy the latest technology on the market, especially a much more efficient energy consumption such as the one that this type of processors is showing to offer. On the positive side of the scale, surely a terminal with the Pinecone Surge S2 processor will be much cheaper.
