You can now transfer data from one Wii U to another

Wii U

With the latest update of Wii U, Nintendo gives us the possibility to transfer our data from one Wii U console to another with a simple and comfortable operation: it will be enough to have an external storage system, some time and little more, to carry out the transfer of data without any problem.

In this tutorial we will talk about the process of transferring data from a Wii U to another and we detail the operation with more useful information so that you are very clear how everything will work, as well as clarify some important aspects about the data that is transferred.

The transfer process

The console from which the data will be transferred is called the console Wii U of origin. The console to which the data is transferred is the console Target Wii U.
Although the data transfer process itself is very simple, there are a number of details to consider.
The length of time required to transfer content from a console Wii U to another varies depending on the volume of data transferred. Do not turn off the Wii U console during the transfer process or remove the SD card unless instructed otherwise.
The transferred content will be erased from the source Wii U console during the transfer process and cannot be transferred back once the process is complete. Transferred programs cannot be downloaded back to the source Wii U console.
You cannot specify what data will be transferred.
The number of transfers between consoles Wii U is not limited, however, after making a transfer, it is necessary wait a week before making a new transfer with the console Wii U of origin or destination.
Requirements for Wii U data transfer

To perform a data transfer, you will need:

  • A console Wii U source with at least one user linked to a Nintendo Network ID
  • A console Wii U of destiny
  • An SD or SDHC memory card
  • Broadband internet connection
  • A command of Wii or command of WiiPlus if you have data of Wii

The space required on the SD card will depend on the size of the data to be transferred. Before inserting the SD card (up to 32GB), the data size will be indicated on the GamePad screen.
If you are transferring data from a Premium Pack to a Basic pack Keep in mind that the storage capacity of both console models is different, so if the size of the data to be transferred is greater than the capacity of the destination console, it will be necessary to use a USB storage device.
Data transferable between Wii U consoles

The data specified below will be transferred in bulk. It is not possible to transfer data or individual users, nor can it be related to controller data (such as synchronization or controller configuration settings), or items other than those listed below.

  • Wii U programs (After transfer, some programs will not be playable on the target Wii U console)
  • Wii U program save data
  • Pre-installed programs in the console and its saving data (you can use in the console Wii U destination the transferred data from applications such as the Mii, friends list y Miiverse)
  • Software downloaded from Nintendo eShop and their save data
  • Update data, additional content and program subscriptions
  • Settings for each user, including your email address and Nintendo Network ID
  • Parental control settings
  • Balance and movements of the account Nintendo eShop
  • Program data Wii and the Wii Shop Channel
  • History movements of the Wii Shop Channel
  • Characters Mii

Considerations

  • Once transferred, the data will be erased from the source Wii U console.
  • During the transfer, all data on the target Wii U console will be erased (including user and save data) and will be replaced by the source console data.
  • If you were using a USB storage device with the target Wii U console, you will not be able to use it again on either console after the transfer is complete, and the data on the USB device (including save data) will remain unusable. In order to use the USB storage device with the console, you will need to reformat it.
  • The programs and additional content of Nintendo eShop downloaded to the target console will also be removed, but once the transfer process is complete, you can download them again to the target console at no additional cost if you re-link a user to the same Nintendo Network ID with which you acquired them.
  • If you want to re-link the Nintendo Network ID console Wii U destination after the transfer, you will need the ID, password and email address of each Nintendo Network ID, so it is recommended that you have them written down.
  • If you are going to make a transfer between two Wii U Premium Pack consoles, you can continue using the service Nintendo Network Premium. However, If you transfer data from a Wii U Premium Pack console to a Wii U Basic Pack console, please note that you will not earn Nintendo Network Premium Points for the programs you download onto the Wii U Basic Pack console after the transfer.

Hello ps I come to ask you for help, I recently sold my wii u and I am thinking of buying another.
    My question is the following:

When passing the data from the source wii u to the destination wii u, all the data of the source wii u would be lost or only the mii character used at that time ... ??

If all the data from the source wii u were deleted in the bucket, would the console be unusable? Or can it be restored to how it was from the factory?

Please, if someone has already transferred from wii ua wii, I would appreciate if you could leave me a little tutorial.

    Thank you.

    Atte: Daniel.
