The legendary company Atari works on a new video game console

Ataribox

Atari, a very popular company in the world of gamers, is preparing its re-entry into the hardware sector with the launch of a new video game console, as confirmed by its own CEO.

The new product, simply called "Ataribox", was recently confirmed by a new video posted on the company's official website. However, its development seems to be in the early stages as Atari is still looking for developers to carry out the project.

Entitled “A New Atari Product. Years in development ”, the new video does not give too many details on this supposed console, although in the images it can be seen that it is partially made of wood and some ports are also observed.

On the other hand, many assure at this time that the new Atari console could be a device emulador style of NES-Classic from Nintendo.

At the bottom of the Ataribox promotional page there are also two buttons called “Jobs” and “Dev”, intended for developers who wish to discover more details about this platform.

Popular, but with a turbulent history

Founded in 1972 under the name Atari Interactive, the company has come to develop games that are appreciated even today, in addition to having released several consoles. In case anyone doesn't remember, even Steve Jobs started his career developing games for Atari in the 70s.

In 1984, the original company was divided in two: Atari Games developed arcade games, while the consumer products division passed into the hands of a company called Tramel Technology, later renamed Atari Corporation. Later, in 1996, Atari Corporation merged with storage media manufacturer JT Storage.

In 1998, Hasbro Interactive, another game developer, took over the company, while in 2001, Infogrames Entertainment took over the reins of Hasbro Interactive, to be renamed Atari Interactive again in 2003.

Subsequently, Atari Interactive licensed the brand name to another company in the group, founded in 2003 under the name GT Interactive, which in turn changed its name to Atari Inc thanks to the great weight of the brand.

In 2013, both Atari and Atari Interactive and other group companies filed for bankruptcy., although a year they solved their financial problems. To continue generating revenue, the company also entered the social and random gaming sector by launching Atari-Casino.
